This Dragonfly Raku Hot Plate was created by Jeremy Diller in Tecate, California. Each product is individually hand made in Jeremy’s studio and infused with love. Each piece is hand formed and fired in an outdoor kiln to over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Molten hot, it is placed in a pit with dried brush and mesquite shavings that burst into flame. The varying conditions of the Raku pottery process assure that each piece is “one of a kind.” Not everyone survives their trial by fire. The ones that do cultivate strength and beauty.
Dragonflies symbolize change, transformation, and self-realization. The Dragonfly’s scurry across water; this represents an act of going beyond what’s on the surface and looking deeper into life and all of it’s lessons. The Dragonfly lives most of its life as a nymph, so it only flies for a fraction of its life. This symbolizes how we need to learn to live in the moment and live life to the fullest while we can still “fly”.
In Europe, Dragonflies have long been associated with fairies. Some traditions say that if you follow a Dragonfly, it will lead you to the fairies. It is also said that they are the steeds of fairies. Other legends say that fairies shapeshift into dragonflies and because they are so full of spiritual energy, they represent the ability to travel between dimensions.
