As we make our way through the cold winter months, we find ourselves nearing the end of Capricorn season. If your birthday is between December 22nd and January 20th, you belong within this zodiac. The Cardinal Earth sign, Capricorns are known for their grounded and hardworking nature, steadfast focus, and a deep sense of responsibility. The Earth element’s influence, associates Capricorn with grounding crystals and incense. Capricorns often gravitate toward darker and neutral colors and stones with stabilizing energies, like that of Smoky Quartz, Hematite, and Onyx. Garnet is a favorite among Capricorns as well and is also the birthstone for January. Scents and incense connected to Capricorn mirror a similar energy, including Patchouli, Cinnamon, and Rosemary. These correspondences bring out the best in Capricorns, accentuating their magic and strengths.
Capricorns are the consummate professionals, thriving in situations where they can demonstrate their leadership capabilities. They are dedicated to working their way to the top (in any task or goal) and growing through experience and to achieve expertise. The impressive work ethic, success and drive of the Sea Goat can also be the sign’s downfall. Saturn is the ruling planet of Capricorn, representing restrictions and control of all kinds; while this stern parental planet’s influence makes Capricorns practical and responsible, it can also lead to a cold and unforgiving nature and isolation. Sometimes it only appears this way from the outside, as Capricorns are secretly incredibly sensitive, if they don’t take care the harshness of the world and disappointments from others can indeed make them turn too far inward for their own good. Additionally, because of their laser sharp focus and extreme dedication to their goals, Capricorns can be prone to overworking and getting mired in the details. They may also hold everyone else to their own strong ethic and standards, forgetting that others have different skill sets, work patterns, values and needs.
One of the strongest, steadiest and most determined signs of the zodiac, we can all turn to Saturn and the energies of Capricorn at this time of year to help us sort through the extraneous and focus clearly on what we want and need to do next. The New Year and the setting of intentions are perfectly positioned in this zodiac sign. Use this last week or so, before we shift into Aquarius, to really envision the platform you want to stand on throughout the year. Who are you taking with you on your quest? What tools will you need? How will you take care of yourself when the road is less than smooth? Take stock and pack your bags – if you prepare well, Capricorn will take you to the top of the mountain.
~ Make Your Plan. Capricorns LOVE organization and planning ahead. With 2021 upon us – and already off to a heck of a start – now is an excellent time to get a new planner or take up journaling. You can tailor it to support your work, personal interests or even your goals for healing. It matters not. Approach the New Year with a sense of purpose, preparation and focus and start making necessary changes.
~ Practice Divination. Capricorns want to be ready for anything that life throws at them. Practicing divination will help you prepare for future events by opening your intuition. Divination invites you to take an introspective look at yourself and your past experiences. Pull three cards from your Tarot or Oracle deck. The first (on the left) represents your past. Where you are coming from and what you have learned. The next (center) is where you are right now, today. What is in front of you? What are you contemplating or what challenge are you grappling with? Perhaps instead it is an opportunity that you need to awaken to. Finally, the third card (right) represents the future, or your year ahead. What should you know now to best prepare? What steps should be next? Perhaps something you have been working towards for a long time is ready to come to fruition. Journal your tarot, meditate over what has been shared with you, and use this insight to guide you through and shift your perspective.
~ Get Loose. With all the stress of 2020, it is important to take a step back and take a break from constant work or strain. One of the most overlooked aspects of the Capricorn is how much fun they can be. Most Caps have a wicked or goofy sense of humor once they know and trust you, and while they love to work, they can play even harder! Card games, sports, or any sort of fun kind of competition will awaken your inner Capricorn spirit! Break free and have some fun, while enjoying the structure of rules and directions, in a very Capricorn fashion.
Every sign brings a unique spark to the world. Intentionally focusing on the gifts of each zodiac will help us all to celebrate our differences and take joy in our successes – a skill that is desperately needed in our world right now. We at the DG wish all Capricorns a happy (planned and orderly) birthday! Sending you all peace and joyful visions for a positive 2021.
