History & Folklore

Legend speaks of Amazonite as the “hope stone” possibly for its strong potassium content that strengthens physical stamina, or its soothing color like that of the spring sky which inspires hope. Amazonite was also associated with the Amazon warriors of ancient Greece, and was believed to give the wearer strength, courage, and fearlessness in battle.

Geological Information

Amazonite is a variety of the potassium feldspar called microcline, which is commonly found in granite, pegmatites, and other igneous rocks. The mineral’s blue-green color is caused by the presence of lead and aluminum in the crystal structure, and its unique hues can range from a pale green to a deep turquoise blue.
