Arfvedsonite is a member of the amphibole group of minerals and is considered to be one of the most important minerals in the field of geology. It is named after the Swedish chemist, Jöns Jakob Berzelius, and was first discovered in 1823 in Norway. This mineral is considered to be one of the most abundant in the Earth’s crust and can be found in metamorphic rocks, such as schists and gneisses. Arfvedsonite is a rare, dark green sodium lithium iron silicate mineral.

Arfvedsonite is commonly mistaken as nuumite or astrophyllite, though they are very different. The common difference between arfvedsonite and astrophyllite is the flash seen inside of astrophyllite is a gold color whereas Arfvedsonite has both the gold flash as well as silver or blue.
