Azurite has been used for centuries as a pigment in paint and was highly valued by artists in the Renaissance period. Azurite is a soft stone named for its deep “azure blue” color. It is a copper carbonate mineral found in the upper oxidized portions of copper deposits. Azurite is a secondary mineral formed by the action of carbonated water acting on copper-containing minerals. It has a vitreous or glassy luster or sheen on a mineral surface. Over time, as it absorbs water, it changes into the mineral Malachite. Thus, the two are often found together, creating a brilliant deep blue stone with flashes of green or vice versa.
Azurite works well with other stones that enhance intuition and psychic abilities, such as Iolite and Sodalite. It is also believed to work well with Malachite and Chrysocolla, it’s frequent companion minerals, as well as with other blue stones such as Lapis Lazuli and Blue Kyanite.
