Geological Information

Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline variety of the quartz family. It is composed of microscopic quartz crystals that are tightly packed together, and its characteristic waxy luster is due to the microscopic structure. It is a semi-transparent to opaque mineral, and can come in a variety of colors, including white, gray, blue, and pink.  Chalcedony gets its color from the presence of trace elements such as iron, manganese, and copper.
