Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral that forms in the oxidized zone of copper deposits. It typically occurs in botryoidal or stalactitic formations, and can be found in shades of green ranging from light to dark, with banding patterns that create a unique and stunning appearance. Malachite’s distinctive green color is due to the presence of copper in its composition. It has a vitreous to silky luster, and its streak is light green. Its distinctive banded pattern is caused by the formation of concentric layers of different shades of green.
