Geological Information

Orthoclase is a feldspar mineral that is often found in granite rocks. It is usually white, gray, or pink, but it can also occur in other colors, such as green and blue. It has a chemical composition of KAlSi3O8, with potassium (K), aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), and oxygen (O) as its main components. It has a unique crystal structure and is often used in the production of ceramics, glass, and porcelain.

Orthoclase is an otherworldly stone as high amounts of it have been found on the surface of Mars, as well as in lunar sand retrieved during the Apollo missions to the Moon. Here on Earth, it was originally discovered in 1801 by Rene Just Hauy. It was first named “orthose”, from the greek “orthos”, meaning straight, in reference to the fracture or cleavage of the stone. It’s name then changed again in 1823 and 1958 as scientist learned more about its unique chemical structure.

Orthoclase works well with other stones that enhance its transformational properties, such as Moldavite and Phenacite. It can also be combined with other calming stones, such as Moonstone and Sunstone, to enhance its stress-reducing properties. Orthoclase is often paired with Clear Quartz to amplify its spiritual properties and to facilitate spiritual growth and transformation.
