Geological Information

Sunstone is a type of feldspar mineral, a member of the plagioclase feldspar group, that comes in various shades of orange, red, and brown. It is often found with other minerals such as hematite, goethite, and pyrite, which give it a sparkly or shimmery appearance. Sunstone is formed through lava flows from volcanic activity, and its colors are the result of the presence of copper, iron and/or magnesium. The copper gives the stone its orange, reddish-brown, or yellow color.
