Metaphysical & Spiritual History
One legend speaks of Amazonite as the “hope stone” possibly for its strong potassium content that strengthens physical stamina, or its soothing color like that of the spring sky which inspires hope.
A soothing stone for the nerves and brain pathways, Amazonite brings about a sense of peace and harmony within the self, and with those around you.
Considered a stone not only of hope, but courage and truth, as it opens the throat, heart, and solar plexus. It allows one to speak one’s truth from the heart without becoming overemotional, and then to be able to have the compassion and ability to hear the other person’s perspective and see their point of view, therefore truly achieving harmony. This also happens when using the stone for self-work, helping one to understand all their different desires and motivations, and seeing all the facets of one’s personality; how each can impact the other, and how to work with them together.
Amazonite is very empowering for use in manifesting one’s dreams and desires, and is most powerful and magnified when those manifestations are spoken aloud. Using Amazonite in dream, journeying, or meditation helps you to see and understand the symbols/messages you may receive, and trust that they are coming from a place of truth and compassion.
Amazonite is wonderful for self-expression and communication in all forms. It also helps to reduce self-damaging behavior, encourage self-respect, grace, and in becoming more self-assured. It helps to boost leadership skills, and increase healthy traits of the more masculine energies. This could also be a wonderful stone for artists of all types as it helps one to distill raw information to use for self-expression. It allows one to filter information while tapping into the flow of your intuition.
Amazonite is also said to be a great stone for prosperity, especially beneficial in new business ventures.
Amazonite has been used for jewelry as long as four thousand years ago in India, Egypt, Sudan, and Mesopotamia. It is also the stone that was engraved with the seventh chapter of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, “The Judgment of Osiris”. Amazonite was believed to be one of the stones in Tutankhamen’s famous gold mask, and was fashioned into a scarab ring that would later be found among his treasures. It is also believed to have been the third stone in the breastplate of Moses.
Amazonite has a deep connection to the mythical Amazonians, a tribe of legendary female warriors. It is said that the Amazonian women would cut off one of their breasts to improve their archery skills and would rub a piece of polished Amazonite on the wound to prevent infection. Amazonite is believed to have adorned the shields of the warriors giving it the nickname “The Stone of Courage,” and is also said to have been given as gifts to the men who visited them. Amazonite is also associated with Egyptian mythology, used as a symbol for good luck and fertility, and fashioned into amulets to increase the reproductive capabilities of the wearer.
