Rose Quartz is a member of the Quartz family that usually occurs in massive pieces but can sometimes grow in clusters of small prismatic crystals. Many ancient civilizations in North America believed quartz to be living beings that only take a breath every hundred years or so, and were incarnations of the divine. Some even presented quartz with food as ritual offerings. Japanese cultures called quartz “The Perfect Jewel” and viewed it as a symbol of infinite space, purity and perseverance. Countless other cultures used quartz in diagnostic healing, meditation and some even believed quartz to be religious objects that would dispel evil and magical enchantments.

Quartz is known in the mineral kingdom as the most versatile and multidimensional mineral. Unlike most other stones, it is able to be programmed with a focused intention and is capable of achieving virtually any goal, and will then amplify that intention out into the world.

Said to be the supreme gift of Mother Earth, even the smallest specimen is infused with the properties of a master healer teacher. It is estimated that about 1/3 of Earth’s crust is made up of some form of quartz, with most quartz said to be 100-125 million years old.

Many legends centered on Rose Quartz can be found throughout almost all known ancient civilizations. In fact, it is believed that Rose Quartz has been used as a token of love since 600 BC. The Romans and Assyrians are among the first to have used Rose Quartz in jewelry, crafting the stone into beads that can be dated back to around 800-600 BC. Ancient Egyptians believed that Isis used Rose Quartz to maintain her eternal youth and beauty. There are many stories throughout Greek mythology that speak of the origin of this powerful stone. One legend tells the story of Adonis the lover of Aphrodite who was killed by a wild boar after venturing into the domain of Artemis. Fearing for her lover, Aphrodite ran to be at his side. Getting caught on a briar bush, the blood of Aphrodite and Adonis joined together staining the white Quartz surrounding them to a rose pink color. Adonis then pleaded to Zeus to save his life. Zeus took pity on the lovers and decided to bring Adonis back for six months every year to be reunited with Aphrodite, thus bestowing the symbol of love renewed to Rose Quartz. Other lore says that Cupid and Eros, both being gods of love, gifted Rose Quartz to humans with the belief that it would spark love and desire within. Rose Quartz has many other historical uses, such as its use as facial treatments in ancient Egypt. Ancient cultures believed that Rose Quartz had the ability to prevent wrinkles and maintain a clear complexion. Rose Quartz is still used in many facial treatments and masks to this day.
