Burn over charcoal, add to charm bags, blends, use as an offering.

Myrrh is the dried sap of the tree Commiphora myrrha, native to Yemen, Somalia and the eastern parts of Ethiopia. It was used as an embalming ointment and, up until about the 15th century, was used as a penitential incense in funerals and cremations. Hence its association with Hecate and the Underworld.

The last gift brought to The Christ Child, by the Magi, was Myrrh to ~ protect him from demons, recognize Him as healer, and distinguish His manhood and human suffering.

Experiment with treating myrrh with wine the way the ancient Egyptians did: soak pieces overnight in red wine, drain. Grind with other ingredients of your incense, and mix with a small amount of well boiled honey for a smoky, sweet incense. This removes the rubbery undertone that myrrh resin has and makes it very sweet and intensely powerful.

Also used in scrying work and exorcisms.
